0,5 V 0,2mA (and other entangled stories)
Der erste Blick auf die Ausstellung 0,5 V 0,2mA (and other entangled stories) im Matjö – Raum für Kunst in Köln von Gonzalo H. Rodríguez zeigt ein zerstörtes Ensemble aus Elektroschott mit Teilen von Computern, Relais und Kabelverbindungen, die nicht funktional sind, sondern ein Bild technischer Verwirrung ergeben. Hier wird kein neues technisches Modell geschaffen, sondern ein dysfunktionales präsentiert.
Die Arbeit ist Teil eines Dokumentationsprozesses und einer künstlerisch-wissentschaftlichen Doktorarbeit mit dem Titel Villa Futuro. Das Zukunftshaus präsentiert sich als Dysfunktionalität in einer hoch entwickelten Welt.
Welchen Beweggrund sollten wir haben, dieses zerstörte Haus zu betreten? Neugierde an Zukunftsvorstellungen, die uns in den Geschichten von Gonzalo H. Rodríguez erzählt werden? Vielleicht wird unsere Neugierde durch die Technik der Augmented Reality noch unterstützt. Mit dieser Technologie erfahren wir, indem wir die angebotenen Tablets nutzen können, welche Bewohner*innen und Organismen an diesem Ort leben und überleben (könnten): ein Spielzeugroboter erzählt wie er in einem Speisesaal mit Eiern, Früchten und Fischen exsistiert, ein Kartoffelexperiment zeigt, wie aus Metall und Plastikmüll organisches Material entsteht.
Der Titel der Ausstellung 0,5 V 0,2mA (and other entangled stories) verbindet die Frage nach der Größe des Widerstandes, wenn bei einer Spannung von 5 Volt ein Strom von 0,4 Milliamper gemessen wird, mit den in der Installation verschlungenen Geschichten. Mit wieviel Strom können wir weiter leben? Die Alternativen, die uns der Künstler in seinen Geschichten als Antworten präsentiert sind düster, dystopisch, erzählen von den einzig möglichen, aber nicht wünschenswerten Gesellschaftsformen, die uns nach einem möglichen Supergau, nach der Vernichtung der bisherigen Lebensformen bleiben werden. The first view of the exhibition 0,5 V 0,2mA (and other entangled stories) at Matjö – Raum für Kunst in Cologne by Gonzalo H. Rodríguez shows a destroyed ensemble of electrical bulkhead with parts of computers, relays and cable connections that are not functional but create an image of technical confusion. No new technical model is created here, but a dysfunctional one is presented.
The work is part of a documentation process and an artistic-scientific doctoral thesis entitled Villa Futuro. The future house presents itself as dysfunctional in a highly developed world.
What motivation should we have to enter this destroyed house? Curiosity about ideas of the future told to us in the stories of Gonzalo H. Rodríguez? Perhaps our curiosity is further supported by the technology of augmented reality. With this technology, we can use the tablets on offer to find out which inhabitants and organisms live and (could) survive in this place: a toy robot tells us how it exists in a dining hall with eggs, fruit and fish, a potato experiment shows how organic material is created from metal and plastic waste.
The title of the exhibition 0.5 V 0.2mA (and other entangled stories) connects the question of the magnitude of resistance when a current of 0.4 milliamperes is measured at a voltage of 5 volts with the stories entwined in the installation. How much electricity can we continue to live with? The alternatives that the artist presents to us as answers in his stories are gloomy, dystopian, tell of the only possible, but not desirable forms of society that will be left to us after a possible super-disaster, after the destruction of the previous forms of life.
