Dissociative Identity

In „Face KIM“ wird der bedrohliche Aspekt zwischen zwei Charakteren deutlich, durch die raue, zeichnerische und malerische Ausführung des Filmes wird dies auf eine weniger erschreckende Wirkung minimiert. In „Thread LEE“ folgt die Figur allein in Irrwegen einer unwirklichen Welt. Durch die händischen Mittel von Grafik und Malerei haben die Arbeiten von Hojin LEE eine originäre und berührende Wirkung, ohne die Betrachter*innen in eine technoide Welt zu entführen. (m.l.)

The VR work „Dissociative Identity“ and the two animated films „Face KIM“ (https://augmenty.art/work/face-kim) and „Thread LEE“ (https://augmenty.art/work/thread-lee) are works from Hojin LEE’s overall project „Characters“. In all of them, the artist combines different egos from her own history. In „Dissociative Identity“, she wants to tell not only about the characters‘ lost moments but also about their positive sides. Her graphically created figures come to life in the room and take on a new, playful life of their own through interaction with the viewer. Each character is given a special sound. This gives them an independent voice in the room and allows them to communicate with the other egos.

In „Face KIM“, the threatening aspect between two characters becomes clear, but the rough, graphic and painterly execution of the film minimises this to a less frightening effect. In „Thread LEE“, the character follows an unreal world alone in wandering paths. Through the manual means of graphics and painting, Hojin LEE’s works have an original and touching effect without transporting the viewer into a technoid world. (m.l.)
